These exciting times

By Commissioner Mike Bush

Commissioner Mike Bush

These are exciting times as we prepare for the Government’s $388 million Safer Communities investment in Police.

The investment will see extra staff deployed in every district, and presents an opportunity to update Our Business (our ‘policing on a page’ guide) and refresh our areas of focus.

Our Purpose, Our Vision and Our Mission - ‘to be the safest country’ - stay the same.

We know why we’re here and what we need to do to make New Zealand the safest country.

But we have given Our Business a tune-up to reflect the way we work in a changing policing environment.

The most significant change is unifying our transformation activities into a single programme.

This comprises the key elements of Policing Excellence the Future as well as the new expectations placed upon us by the Safer Communities package.

The new Our Business also acknowledges the importance of looking after our people, with Wellness and Safety included among our strategies.

Our Business is an important signpost to our future direction, and we want all our people to feel and be part of it. I encourage you all to check out the key details elsewhere in this Ten One.

On the subject of modernisation, May’s issue of our magazine Ten One is the last of the printed monthly magazines to be published.

The magazine has done a great job over 25 years but it’s time to use the technology we have to connect with staff in the best way possible.

From now, Ten One news will be delivered to staff through the new Police Intranet. This is another example of our transformation and modernisation, and has been a huge job led by our Public Affairs Webteam and ICT. Thanks to everyone involved, and best wishes for the launch.
